Atlus maintains that their business performance was strong for FY ended March 31, 2023, and contributed notably to Sega’s profits as a result.

Fiscal Year Business Overview

Atlus’ 10th fiscal year ranged from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023.

Company Market Analysis

In regards to the consumer entertainment content business, game platforms are expanding and diversifying, while the digitization of game content and services is progressing. As a result, the market environment continues to undergo significant changes, including the emergence and development of digital sales, F2P, subscription services, the diversification of profit-earning opportunities, and longer sales periods due to the expansion of oppportunities to bring more content and services globally. This is all alongside continued physical game sales.

Although there has been some stabilization in market trends due to changes in consumer behavior on a global scale caused by the spread of COVID, expectations for the revitalization and growth of the global game market persist.

Packaged Games Business

In this business environment, we focused on the launch of our mainstay, packaged game titles and licensing business. As a result, our business performance remained strong. In the packaged game business, we have been focusing on:

  • 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim (Nintendo Switch version)
  • Soul Hackers 2
  • Persona 5 Royal (Remastered version)
  • Persona 3 Portable (Remastered version)
  • Persona 4 Golden (Remastered version)

Persona 5 Royal (Remastered Edition) has sold 1.7 million copies worldwide, and the Persona 5 series as a whole has sold over 9 million copies worldwide.

Additionally, Soul Hackers 2Persona 5 Royal (Remastered Edition), Persona 3 Portable (Remastered Edition), and Persona 4 Golden (Remastered Edition) were all released simultaneously on various computer hardware via Steam and Windows. (Only Persona 4 Golden (Remastered) was released on Steam before the others in June 2020)

As a result, the share from our overseas sales remains high.

Licensing Business

In the licensing business, as part of the “Persona 25th FES” which was held since the previous fiscal year, a special exhibition was held at Tokorozawa Sakura Town for about two months from May 2022, which was well received. Furthermore, in October 2022, we held the first music event in about three years with the “PERSONA SUPER LIVE P-SOUND WISH 2022: Crossing Journeys,” and in January 2023, we held the “13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim Orchestral Concert,” both of which ended in great success.

We’ve also continued to work on large-scale collaborations between leading smartphone game titles from other companies using our IP, which have been well received.

Profits & Losses

As a result of these business activities, we were able to make a significant contribution to the Group’s profits.

On the other hand, our non-consolidated profit/loss for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2023 was a loss due to the impact of the amortization of business rights with the transfer of operations from Index Co., Ltd. to SEGA Dream Co., Ltd. in November 2013, each fiscal year. However, there has still been a significant contribution to the Sega Sammy Group’s consolidated financial results in terms of earnings.

Additionally, the balance sheet shows a high level of financial soundness, with an equity ratio of 93.13% and a current ratio of 202.4%.

Atlus concludes that it believes its mission is to continue to develop games that will please its customers, and continue to contribute to the Group’s performance.
