Looking at the Eighty Sixed Merchandise for Shin Megami Tensei V

Video game apparel company Eighty Sixed launched a new line of merchandise featuring Shin Megami Tensei V last month, featuring new T-shirts, new pins, a lanyard and a poster.

Coinciding with the launch, Eighty Sixed generously provided us with a package containing all the newly released merchandise for us to have a look at.

T-Shirts

Three new T-shirt designs are part of the new SMT V line. The first features the protagonist, Nahobino, assuming a pose depicting the skill “Kannabi Veil” along with Satsuki flowers. I like how focused the illustration is at the top of the shirt, conveying a calm atmosphere between the flowers, the visuals of the veil, and Nahobino’s pose. As with all Eighty Sixed shirts I’ve worn, the graphic print is of high quality, and so are the shirts themselves.

The second is a design for the Tree of Knowledge found in Da’at, a location many players will be familiar with throughout their playthrough. As opposed to the first shirt, the graphic takes up a large, vertical space. The design gives it the feel of a playing/Tarot card. I like shirts with subtle references towards the source material, so—save for the name of the game printed below the graphic—this one is my favorite.

The third depicts several characters from SMT V, including the protagonist, Nuwa, Yakumo, Amanozako, and more. Featured in a comic panel style, the game’s key players are portrayed with distinct shades of blue and a use of white with yellow highlights that make the illustrations pop.

Pins & Lanyard

The four limited edition pins (with 500 units in circulation for each) are as follows:

Each are sturdy and thoughtfully crafted. My favorite is the Amanozako enamel pin, which is surprisingly detailed and sparkles in person.

The reversible lanyard strap feels nice to the touch, with a nice Jouin themed design on one side and a Nahobino one on the other. The art card featuring the Nahobino is of high quality and has a design that stands out as well.

Poster

The SMT V poster depicts Nahobino and the Bethel demons. I was surprised by how large it was. The print is of high quality, with no low fidelity impressions or visual flaws. Considering its size, it will definitely stand out in any room it’s placed in.

Overall, I was glad to see that the quality of Eighty Sixed product lines was maintained for Shin Megami Tensei V, and I’d like to see products specifically designed after Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance in the future.
