Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection was announced yesterday as a remastered collection of Etrian Odyssey I, II, and III for the Nintendo Switch and Steam. A live stream to celebrate the announcement took place earlier today, with comments from the developers about the game.

The developer comments include the first statements about the next Etrian Odyssey game teased in July 2018. According to the developers, it will take more time to develop the game as the team figures out how to make the transition from the Nintendo DS’ two screens to modern platforms. They will be using feedback from the remasters to aid in their development of the next major release.

Etrian Odyssey Development Team

Hello everyone, this is the “Etrian Odyssey” development team. It’s been a while. First of all, thanks to all of your support, the “Etrian Odyssey” series is able to celebrate its 16th anniversary this year. This is all thanks to all those who enjoy playing the games, thank you very much.

To all of you who have been looking forward to the new game, we thank you very much for your patience… The hardware has changed from the two-screen DS, and we have to admit that it will take more time to create a new “Etrian Odyssey.”

In the course of our research, these remasters were produced based on the concept of “We want people to be able to play the original trilogy, which is no longer accessible, on current consoles.”

The play style has changed significantly from the two-screen DS, but we have also prepared methods for those who want to enjoy hand-drawn maps.

We would like to make use of opinions on this remaster for the new “Etrian Odyssey” game. We would like to hear your feedback, whether you’ve played previous titles in the series or are playing “Etrian Odyssey” for the first time.

We look forward to hearing from you.

It’s been 16 years since “Etrian Odyssey” was first released, and now it will finally be available to play on the Nintendo Switch and Steam!

Whether you’re a newcomer or a seasoned adventurer who hasn’t played in a while, empty your mind and enjoy the unique initiation of “Etrian Odyssey” to its fullest!

Composer: Yuzo Koshiro

I’m so happy about the release of “Etrian Odyssey” on the Nintendo Switch and Steam! I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time. I’m really curious to see how “Etrian Odyssey,” born on the Nintendo DS’ two screens, has been adapted to be comfortable to play. I’m way too excited to use the dock in order to play on a big screen with the volume high!

There is one new song, only for “Etrian Odyssey III” this time. There was no background music on the 6th stratum encounters, so we took the opportunity of remastering to create an additional song. [Yuzo Koshiro tweeted that this song is hard rock, with a sense of urgency unique to Etrian Odyssey.]

The existing background music has also been remastered using the PC-88 sound source, so please enjoy the music as well.

Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection will be released for the Nintendo Switch and Steam on June 1, 2023.
