Persona 5 English Website Officially Opens, 2015 Release Date

Atlus USA has updated the official English version of the Persona 5 website and has reasserted the 2015 release date for the game in North America, following the Atlus USA main website’s update listing a “Late 2015” release date last week.

This follows the previous website update of the age gate addition in March.

The description of the Persona series on the website:

Persona is an RPG series set in cities and high schools in modern day Japan. It focuses on the growth of adolescents who, upon the awakening of their “Persona” abilities, overcome various trials together.
The heart of the Persona series is the clashing of ordinary events such as school life, friendship, and love, with the extraordinary such as urban legends, strange rumors, bizarre occurrences, and glimpses of the dark side of society. Its mysterious charm has fascinated fans all over the world.
The series has expanded to various media, including anime, music concerts, stage plays, and manga. Its popularity continues to soar by the day.
Throughout the series, “Persona” refers to a hidden “personality” or the “other self” that lurks within oneself. Personas manifest themselves as legendary gods and demons, and hold otherworldly powers. The adolescents who awaken to the Persona ability wield their powers to confront and overcome many perils that stand in their way.

For the protagonist:

Beneath the veneer of typical urban high school life, a group of teenagers mask their mysterious alter egos, their “phantom thief” side. Who are they? Why are they dressed as such? What are their motives? And… why are they being pursued? A picaresque coming-of-age story, Persona 5 will bring a thrilling, new twist to the RPG genre!

You will assume the role of a second-year high school student who becomes a Persona-user through an unexpected incident. Having moved to Tokyo just before the start of the school year, he finds residence at a cafe run by his parents’ friend, and is about to get his first taste of school life in the big city.
The protagonist seems quiet and well-mannered at first glance, but gives a completely different impression once he has donned his “phantom thief” guise.
What is the motivation of his alter ego…?

For the Persona Arsene:

Arsene is the protagonist’s initial Persona, characterized by a mask-like face and a pair of huge, black wings. Some suspect an association between its name and the famous gentleman-thief, Arsene Lupin. What is the origin of this Persona, and what power does it hold?

For the setting:

This is an account of the wild adventures experienced by a team of young misfits, who grow dramatically along the way. While attending Shujin High School, the protagonist will encounter a number of individuals, each with his or her own distinctive personality and charm. School life in the city is full of surprises and interesting events! It will most definitely be a fun year for the protagonist, living as an ordinary student.
However, he and his friends become involved in an incident which leads to the awakening of their Personas. No one would ever suspect that these adolescents will eventually shake the world…
Welcome to the next iteration of the Persona series, boasting a brand new metropolitan setting, all-new cast, and fresh, original story.

Persona 5 is planned for a release on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 both in Japan and in North America in 2015.

Persona 5

  • AbdurRasheed Sadiq

    lol Auragar sweating now xD

    • At what the no news, and still only planned 2015 release which will actually still be 2016 because 2015 will never happen?

  • Adrian Grinstead

I was expecting something concerning a more exact release for other territories like Europe but my optimism was probably way too high for an issue that will not receive clarification any time soon. It seems that we still have to remain patient for now…

    • They don’t care about Europe, and will not even update on the US (or Japan release).

  • SilverClock

Please don’t pull a Kingdom Hearts 2.5 and release it on the last day of the year!

    • If it is 2015, it will be December.

      • SilverClock

    • SquallStorm

P4 came out in December. I’m expecting it to be another six months but god damn it all, it will be worth it!

      • My guess is a 4 month gap. November 2015 JP, March 2016 US. ??? ???? EU.

  • Kiondrick Gauthier

You know, if it does come out this year, I hope the localization isn’t rushed. Wasn’t there something about Persona 4 being rushed with localization and how the team had less time for it?

    • I wouldn’t want a rushed localization, take your time Atlus USA. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax was rushed eugh that was gross.

      • Kiondrick Gauthier

Yeah, I wouldn’t mind if the game came out in 2015, but if the localization is not good, then by all means release it in 2016. I can wait.

        • I can wait, I have been expecting 2016 for a long time now. I want a good translation.

  • Kiondrick Gauthier

So yeah they just released the Persona 5 trailer…and it’s the same as the Japanese one. Even using Japanese footage. Only the first part was translated…

  • Vallen

Shame this game wasn’t at E3

    • I feel like it really made no difference being there or not.

  • do you think they will remake it with a portable console version
    i hope they will

  • Marcin Szklarz

So I think I should be ok with question like this : Do you think that P5 will be region locked?

    • One would hope not.

      • Marcin Szklarz

That’s the fate of those living in EU :( Especially Poland.

        • It shouldn’t be region locked. So even with you poor Europeans getting scared you should be able to import it and play it without issue.
