Sega Sammy has released their Q&A for their Q1 2025 financial results. One investor question asks about Sega’s specific plans to develop the Persona IP going forward. Sega states that Atlus plans to expand the series through film adaptations, in addition to new games and merchandise.

Q: With regards to the Persona IP, I would like to hear about specific plans to develop and strengthen the IP going forward, regarding both new titles and transmedia strategies.

A: The Persona series has been performing well, primarily due to sales of full-priced titles. This year we have also released the free to play title Persona 5: The Phantom X, contributing to a general increase to the series’ IP value. Going forward, Atlus plans to expand IP recognition beyond games, through releasing new games in the series but also through film adaptations and merchandising. We will follow a transmedia strategy to build Persona into a powerful IP that can compare to Sonic.

In 2022, Sega had previously stated an interest in live action TV and film adaptations of Atlus titles, however there has been no further hints at any concrete plans. Sega currently has adaptations of a number of their legacy franchises in production, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Golden Axe, Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Eternal Champions, The House of the Dead and Outrun.
