Last week, Sega announced that the mobile game Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 would be shutting down in Belgium on October 18, 2018.
The end of service and termination of in-app purchases for the game is due to “difficulties in complying with Belgium’s gambling laws.” In April 2018, Belgian Minister of Justice Koen Geens declared that loot boxes in video games were considered gambling, and demanded the removal of those elements from games sold there.
Fundamentally a gacha game incentivizing players to spend money, Sega was likely unable to find a workaround for Liberation Dx2, and were forced to pull it from the Belgian market outright.
