Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Characters and Systems Detailed


Atlus has released new information on characters and systems in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance though a website update.

The Qadistu

Naamah (CV: Shizuka Ito, English: Kari Wahlgren)

A member of the Qadistu referred to as the “Mother of All Demons.” As the most carnal of the four, she is a seductress said to be so beautiful that mortals, demons, and even angels fall to her charms

Eisheth Zenunim (CV: Kimiko Saito, English: Allegra Clark)

A member of the Qadistu known to lure people to their doom. According to Jewish myths, she eats the souls of the dammed. She attacks and seals the souls of humans under the pretence of giving them salvation.

Agrat bat Mahlat (CV: Reina Ueda, English: Cherami Leigh)

A member of the Qadistu infamous as the queen of demons. She is also called “the demon who dances on the roof,” as she is said to wander the air with a hoard of messengers of destruction.


One of the 72 demons of the “Ars Goetia.” His form is described as a dog with griffin-like wings. It is also said that he is the author of bloodshed and murder, excels at predicting the future and can make people invisible.


Tao Isonokami (CV: Saori Hayami, English: Jeanie Tirado)


A third-year student in the protagonist’s class and member of the lacrosse club. Known for her caring and kind hearted nature, she has possessed a sixth sense since childhood. She assist’s Bethel’s Japanese branch and supports the protagonists when the join Bethel, offering healing and support skills in battle.

Yuzuru Atsuta (CV: Kaito Ishikawa, English: Mark Whitten)


A friend of the protagonist. Responsible, capable, and assertive, he is a principled and upright young man, and fights alongside Bethel in a provisional unit to protect his sister Miyazu and the peace of Tokyo.

After wandering into Da’at alongside the protagonist, he gains the power of the demon summoning program and battles by commanding the sacred beast Hayataro and other demons.

Ichiro Dazai (CV: Kisho Taniyama, English: Stuart Allan)

The protagonist’s classmate. A cheerful but slightly gauche guy who enjoys livestreaming. He struggles with his grades, and most other students just see him as a loser.

He gets caught in the Takanawa Tunnel collapse during a livestream and wanders into Da’at. Hoping to prove his worth for a noble cause, he eagerly accepts Bethel’s request to join forces and wields the demon summoning program to fight with demon allies like Aitvaras and Mokoi.

Miyazu Atsuta (CV: Ryo Hirohashi, English: Ashlyn Madden)

Yuzuru’s little sister and only remaining family member. Shy and reserved, she’s often seen visiting the nurse’s office due to her poor physical health. She looks up to Yuzuru but worries about the dangers of his duties at Bethel.

Sahori Itsukishima (CV: Lynn, English: Erica Lindbeck)

Tao’s friend and former lacrosse team mate. After being bullied by members of the lacrosse team, she becomes the prey of the evil god Lahmu – who preys on her emotional distress.



Press Turn Combat

The series’ simple but rewarding turn-based Press Turn Combat system is back, with new skills and gameplay elements. Turn the tides of battle in your favor by targeting your enemy’s weaknesses to gain extra actions before your enemies do.

Magatsuhi Skills

Your Magatsuhi Gauge fills up throughout the course of battle. Once the gauge is full, you’ll be able to trigger special abilities known as Magatsuhi Skills. From dealing heavy damage to healing and buffing your party, there are now over 50 Magatsuhi Skills to leverage – some of which are exclusive to certain types of demon.

Allies who share the same alignments will give you access to even more abilities.

Innate Skills

All demons now possess innate skills – passive skills that give you an extra edge in battle. Some may power up your attacks when certain demons are present, while others aid you when negotiating with demons. These innate skills add an extra layer of strategy to the way to assemble your party.

Guest Characters

As the story progresses, human characters may participate as allies in battle. These characters can fight like demon allies, as well as use items.

Consecutive Encounters

After defeating an enemy, another demon may appear to continue the battle. This fight will become tougher than usual, but winning will grant you additional Macca and Exp, as well as a higher likelihood of items dropping. To aim for bigger bonuses, look for areas where more enemies are gathered.

Demon Conversations

By talking with demons you can make them into allies. There are many types of demon, with difference personalities and preferences. In this title, the variety of conversations has increased allowing for deeper negotiations with the demons.

Premium Demo Event

A demo event for Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance will be held between May 3, 2024 and May 4, 2024 in Tokyo. Advanced application is required.

Two demo options will be available on the day. Guests will either be able to play for up to 6 hours from the beginning of the game, or for up to 6 hours after the first battle with Nuwa in Da’at in the Canon of Vengeance arc.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance will be released on Nintendo Switch, PS4/PS5, Steam, Xbox and Windows PC on June 14, 2024 worldwide.
