The Atlus and Nintendo collaboration RPG Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore was released in Japan last week on January 17th, and sales tracker Famitsu reports that 18,797 copies of the enhanced Switch port were sold during its first week, ranking it at 6th place.

This Famitsu estimated sales data for Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore in Japan are of sales ranging from January 13 to January 19, 2020.

Update (2020-01-23): According to updated Famitsu sales rankingsTokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore achieved a 60-80% sell-through rate at retailers during its first week of release.

This is not a particularly high sell-through rate, however it indicates a better understanding of the potential sales performance for the game from retailers, compared to the 40-60% initial sell-through rate of the original Wii U title.

Update (2020-01-24): Nintendo has released information on the most downloaded games through the Nintendo eShop last week, ranging from January 16 to January 22, 2020. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore ranked first for the Nintendo Switch games during that period of time.

While the digital sales are lacking any comprehensive numbers, it is an indication that the game sold relatively well digitally.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE & Encore Sales Comparison

A comparison of the Japanese opening sales (followed by lifetime sales) of both Tokyo Mirage Sessions versions.

  1. [NSW] Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore (Nintendo) {2020-01-17} – 18,797 / NEW
  2. [WIU] Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (Nintendo) {2015-12-26} – 23,806 / 36,868

The original Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE for the Wii U, released in Japan on December 26, 2015, sold 23,806 copies during its first week. With Encore having sold 18,797 copies, this represents a 21% decrease in copies sold over the original game’s opening.

While potentially irrelevant towards broader sales numbers, on Amazon Japan, a commonly cited criticism in the reviews for the Japanese version of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore is the fact that it was based on the overseas version of the game, and that it wasn’t made clear from the start with Nintendo having needed to make an apology.

The sell-through rate at retailers for the initial shipment of TMS #FE Encore will be announced via Famitsu tomorrow. A high sell-through rate could indicate that retailers in Japan had low expectations for the game’s sales performance, and thus ordered few copies of Encore, resulting in low stock availability.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore ranked 11th in the UK sales charts for its opening week, with 17% stronger sales than the original game which debuted at rank 16 in June 2016.

During the opening month for the original Tokyo Mirage Sessions in the U.S. in June 2016, the game sold approximately 50k copies.
